We’re not in Kansas Anymore: Journeys to Places Real and Imagined

Hastings-on-Hudson Arts Commission in association with Hastings Historical Society is commemorating actress Billie Burke (1884–1970), a stage and screen star and renowned comedienne adored for her role as Glinda the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz. This movie classic, which premiered 80 years ago, transports us on a heroic magical journey. In tribute, we're asking artists, where does your art transport you?

This exhibition marks the third in a series commemorating, through art and education, luminaries from the arts and sciences who lived or worked in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. The Burke Estate was the residence of Billie Burke and Florenz Ziegfeld, the Broadway impresario, on and off for 30 years. The site is now part of Hastings High School’s athletic fields on Farragut Avenue.

JUROR: Juror is Daniel Belasco, Executive Director, Al Held Foundation, and former curator of exhibitions and programs at Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art in New Paltz, and The Jewish Museum in New York.
EXHIBITION DATES: September 1 to November 2, Hastings Village Hall
OPENING RECEPTION: Thursday, September 12, 4 – 6 PM
